Post OELP Reflections:

1)
I choose to go on this trip as it is enriching and will allow me to gain a deeper understanding on China’s heritage, culture and economical prospects. I wanted to go onto China and experience the cost of living and the attractions there.
As this is a valuable learning experience with my class, I decided to take the trip seriously, listen attentively to the tour guide’s explanation which I believe is the most basic responsibility as a student, taking down notes for post OELP tasks and appreciate the opportunity in my CID group to work together in China.
I hope to learn the heritage, conditions and facilities of the school and economical aspect in China. For example, I want to learn more about the Nanjing Massacre in museum, if the China students really participating actively in class, wanting to learn more things in school. Lastly, I want to learn why almost everything is made in China, why people want to do business in China and what make China an attractive place for investment.

2)
I really felt puzzled when our tour guide told us that Shanghai is one of the most expensive city in the world and the price of products sold in Shanghai are mostly costing more by 30% than in Nanjing. In fact, Shanghai today is very modernised and developed and its sea port are the greatest in Asia. I have always thought China is more undeveloped than Singapore but this trip broadened my view that Shanghai has more than what Singapore has such as the Oriental Peal Tower.
My buddy in Nanjing Bole School had also taught me a lot. Whenever I ask him about the heritage and culture of Nanjing, he was always able to answer me with a lot of information. He even knows the history of his region’s delicacies, how was it created. We should think about how much we know about Singapore, do we know all the history of Singapore. Probably not, and I think we should really learn and understand the many interesting history of Singapore.
During the debrief on day 3 about Nanjing Massacre Museum, my teacher had told us one fact about the museum. The museum is subjective and the stories told were from the point of view of the Chinese people. This suggest that the information in the museum are mostly biased as only the feeling of survivors of the Nanjing Massacre are recorded for the museum. I had been impacted deeply, we should always approach a situation objectively, considering various point of views so that our conclusion is not biased, which is very unfair.

3)
After this trip, I would be more appreciative towards the many opportunities I had in school. There are a lot of opportunities in school that we always take for granted and did not do our very best to complete it. I would also be more objective when I handle a situation taking different point of views so my conclusion will not be biased and unfair. Lastly, I would be more active in completing tasks the teacher assigned in school instead of grunting about it.
I hope I would continue to change for a better self as I change my behaviour and attitude towards something. I hope to have long term changes in myself so I could improve and become a better person, like how I did in OELP.
I learnt about economical aspects in China. There are a lot of natural resource, land available in China, therefore making its rental, raw products and labour cheap as compared to Singapore. Thus, doing a business in China would reap a bigger profit than in Singapore. However, Singapore had invested huge sums of money in different aspects like that education and tourism industry. Although it is hard to do business in Singapore, we can put our hard hard in other areas like education and tourism industry to boost our economy.

Three, two, one lesson reflection:
1 things that i found out
1) Standard of living.
Standard of living is determined by many factors such as environment and availability to education but the two main factors are cost of living and gross domestic product of the country. Standard of living is very important as it can be used o measure the well being of an individual.
2)Eco system tension
Eco system tension is the impact on various areas the affect the nation caused by the decision made by the government. The impact could be either beneficial or harmful tensions on category such as health and infrastructure.
3) One child policy in China
The one child policy in China is implemented to solve problems caused by huge population such as infrastructure and basic needs. The purpose of this one child policy has turned to undesirable from meaningful. Families who always wanted a boy but gave birth to a girl would abandon the girl.

2 perception gained
1) When new policies are implemented, the government must always measure the consequences either beneficial or harmful. The consequences can be categorized into groups like health or infrastructure.
2) The disastrous effect of one child policy in China is due to the factor of preference for boy resulting in abandoned girl.

1 question
We have only think about the disastrous effect of one child policy in China which is abandoned girls, but have we thought of what will happen if one child policy was not implemented to China.

(Modified Piece For Reflection On Chingay)

Reflection on Chingay:
1)
The theme of Chingay 2016 is 'Lights of Singapore, Bright Future'. Chingay 2016  is to celebrate the legacy and wisdom of our founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and other founding fathers based on the core values advocated by them and pledging our support to leave by it and move forward together towards a brighter future Singapore in the next fifty year since this year marks the first year of our nation next fifty years.
However, when i think deeper i realised that Chingay 2016 is not only about celebrating our founding father legacy to shine for the next fifty years. It is to also promote racial harmony among Singapore citizens across all races. Singapore need to maintain the racial harmonious after the 1964 race riots in Singapore through this event, Chingay. In Chingay 2016 which i had watched, i observed people from different races performing for the event. The people worked together and with that come the interaction of the different races which would build relationships among them as they want to make the event a success and to celebrate Chinese New Year.
2)
The purpose of the first Chingay had definitely changed when it came to Chingay 2016. The purpose of the first Chingay was to compensate for the ban on firecrackers, a customary New Year practice to drive away evil spirits. This is why Chingay always had nice fireworks and firecracker performance.
However, this had changed when it came to Chingay 2016 with different purpose I had shared earlier on so I am only going to explain why it had changed.
The change is the integration of multiple races into the performance Chingay 2016. The integration could be seen when i was watching the performance as I saw Indian and Malay dance in it. Why there is a need to promote racial harmony is due to the race riots in Singapore at 1964. At that time there was racial dispute and to prevent this issue from happening again, there is a need to implement different races to promote racial harmony.
I think this change is also due to the need to preserve and commemorate our founding father Mr Lee Kuan Yew. We have to appreciate and continue the legacy of Mr Lee Kuan Yew so the organizers of Chingay 2016 integrated the multiple races.

3)
I think the organizers had successfully fulfilled this purpose. The organizers had decorated the place in line with the purpose of celebrating our founding fathers legacy. For instance, there were floats accompanied with LED lights shining the purpose of Chingay 2016. The strong lighting of the event symbolized the next fifty years of Singapore. This is evident when my friend told me they will work hard in future and contribute to the society to continue the legacy of our founding fathers.
Furthermore, the purpose of promoting racial harmony was also fulfilled. The organizers planned activities of different culture performed by different races such as the Malay and Indian dance. This is also evident when my friend told me they had felt the power of an united country.

Reflection on poverty and happiness:
I think that both poverty and happiness are not related only up to some extent. Happiness is defined by the happy planet index as the combination of three factors experienced well being, life expectancy, and ecological footprint.
The purpose of the happy planet index is to measure the happiness experience by the people in a country.
The information given by the happy planet index says that China is a more happy country than Singapore. Singapore has good experienced well being and life expectancy with one poor ecological footprint while China has middling life expectancy and ecological footprint with poor experienced well being.
My question is that how does ecological footprint got to do with the happiness of one people.
I can infer from this peice of information that Singapore is a less happy country than China due to poor ecological footprint.
The concept is that happiness is defined as the combination of three factors experienced well being, life expectancy, and ecological footprint. My assumption is that poverty meant decreased experienced well being. The implication is that being rich does not necessarily meant happier.
My point of view is that I do not agree with ecological footprint being a factor of happiness. When ecological footprint is increased, more nature is cleared and the land will be used as development of infrastructure. This could mean more houses will be built reducing close proximity, wider roads to prevent unhappiness over traffic congestion, and more facilities built for community engagement.
Thus, i think that Singapore should be a more happy place than China and that poverty would not increase happiness but wealth would also not decrease happiness.

Reflection on RV60:
My role in RV60 was Wushu mass display, and more specifically, I was one of the flag bearers(大旗).  For me, my role is highly physically demanding as I had to run across the field with the flag upright, and the flag must be straight and not shaky. RV60 was over and I had reflect the overall of it.
The purpose of RV60 is to show our alumnus that River Valley was still doing well and how their juniors persevere throughout the year to uphold the school's reputation and spirit. My question is how
our alumnus were thinking about us?
However, I got information from my teacher that the RV60 performance was awesome and incredible. She said a point that I totally agrees with. She said that she like specially like it when the wind blows the flag flutters. I can infer that our perseverance and efforts put in since the last two months had paid off.
The concept is definitely '携手共进' and my assumption is the RV60 was a success which our alumnus liked.
The implication would be that our alumnus were proud of us and we're relieve that we uphold the RV60 spirit which was passed down from their generation.
My point of view is that RV60 cause us to work together, together as a whole rv family we 携手共进.

携手共进

平凡中的不平凡:

So this is a picture of a huge board with our school song and school motto on it. All Rvians should have seen it before when they first stepped in RV. However, it is a cruel reality that students did not really look at that for a second time and that they also did not appreciate it.
My purpose for taking this picture is to remind all of Rvains who are reading my post that they had been neglecting the huge board which plays a sentimental value in our RV days. My question to it is that why people tends to forget the huge board?
The information I found out is that this board was used for celebrating the declaration of our school's new campus. I can infer from this piece of information that this board does not only just contains our school song and motto but also our school spirit, which I considered as 'a feeling that can only be felt but not written out. This board signifies the declaration of our new campus, and this place will be the place where we '携手共进',
My concept is of symbolism of the huge board and I assumed that all Rvians do not put the board in a place of their heart.
So the consequences and implication will be that the board is going to be a white elephant. Since no one is going to care about the board, there is no meaning behind the board.
My point of view is that we Rvians should take a look at the board and appreciate it whenever they walk pass it or going to the general office. Let's show our RV spirit by first appreciating the things or people around us in the school.
